The center, made up of cybersecurity experts from Portland State University, University of Oregon, and Oregon State University, will act as an advisory body to the governor and the state legislature.

Oregon State University’s marine science research and education center seeks live giant Pacific octopus donations. Those who catch an octopus while fishing are asked to donate their octopus to Hatfield for exhibit. Those wishing to donate are required to hold a current state of Oregon-issued shellfish license.

Gearing Up for Gardening: "The Good Guys and the Bad Guys—Native Plants and Invasives," Michael Ahr and Sara Roberts, Benton Soil & Water Conservation District. Nostalgia: A solo exhibition by Iván Carmona. Iván Carmona’s ceramic work exists in a long lineage of abstracted, modernist sculpture that taps into a deep well or nostalgia and indirect association. Inspired by Puerto Rican landscapes, Carmona sifts his own intimate memories through distinct shapes, colors and textures to give physicality to the immaterial. Carmona’s work will be on display from Jan. 8 to Feb. 8 in Fairbanks Hall. An opening reception and artist talk will occur from 4-7 p.m., Jan. 9.

The Little Gallery Presents: Afghanistan Before the Wars - Photography by Mark Svendsen. The narrative for this exhibit is to acquaint Oregonians with the native beauty of Afghanistan and the universal humanity of its people, and to impart a sense of what life there was like when the country was at peace half a century ago. The exhibit will run Jan. 9-Feb. 16 in The Little Gallery of Kidder Hall. Free and open to all.
Vistas and Vineyards Juried Show: Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center presents Vistas and Vineyards Juried Show. Vistas and Vineyards is the oldest continuous plein air painting group in the state of Oregon. Come celebrate their 34 years of painting outdoors. The exhibition runs from Jan. 3-Feb. 29. Day of service: The Dr. MLK Day of Service will take place on Jan. 13. This event is an opportunity to honor Dr. King’s legacy through volunteer service. A light breakfast, snacks and hot lunch will be provided to participants. Check-in and meals will be held in the Horizon Room of the Memorial Union. Second Annual Big Blue Film Fest, Jan. 26-27, Newport: This year's film festival features 27 ocean-themed films at the confluence of marine science, humanities and the arts. Mindful Self Compassion 10-week Program: Kate Gallagher will guide a 10-week mindful self compassion program starting Jan. 10 at the Marigold Center. MSC is an empirically supported method that improves mood, relationships, resilience and reduces harsh self-criticism. Registration is open and the cost is $400 for educators; $450 for the public. DFA Risk Appetite and Risk Assessment Tools: "Train the Trainer." Insurance and Risk Management Services will facilitate a workshop for unit leaders and supervisors to provide exposure to the DFA Risk Appetite Statements and Risk Assessment Tools. Onboarding forums held via Zoom: The President and Provost’s Leadership Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (PPLC) is hosting another onboarding forum via Zoom for employees of color on Jan. 12. We are seeking to identify additional ways to support the success and belonging of new employees of color. The forum is from 9-10 a.m. on Jan. 12 and registration is required. OSU-Cascades Science Pub: Oregon State University – Cascades’ Science Pub series continues on Jan. 16 with “The Roller Coaster of Hemp in Oregon,” a talk on the history of the hemp industry in Oregon from its legalization in 2018 to today. Presenter Gordon Jones is an agronomist with the OSU Extension Service. The Science Pub will take place from 5:30-7:15 p.m. in the Charles McGrath Family Atrium in Edward J. Ray Hall at OSU-Cascades. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for networking and dining, with the presentation to follow at 6 p.m.

NEW! GIS Campus Construction Map Launch: A new OSU Corvallis Campus Construction Map launched in early December 2023, thanks to a successful joint effort between DFA IT, University Land Use Planning and Space Management. The new construction map leverages GIS technology to illustrate the scope of construction work happening across campus and displays current, future and recently completed projects. The map also provides a short description of each project and links to further information.

Faculty fellowship: The L.L. Stewart Faculty Fellowship offers OSU science and engineering faculty an opportunity to engage in collaborative inquiry alongside a professional artist. For up to two years, faculty and artists will partner on curiosity-driven exploration of questions central to their shared interests. Fellows will partner with PRAx and receive up to $15,000 per year to support the artistic collaboration. Applications due Feb 5.
