About 60% of Oregonians with young children spend one-fifth of their monthly income on child care, and 54% of Oregon employers say lack of child care access makes it harder to hire and retain workers, an Oregon State University study found.

“She thought we were all gone,” Meanus says in “My Name Is LaMoosh,” a short memoir about her tribal childhood in the rapidly modernizing Columbia River Gorge. The book was published this spring by Oregon State University Press with editorial help from Confluence, the Vancouver-based educational nonprofit that highlights the multicultural history of the Columbia River and its people.
Late planting is associated with lower weed pressure because mechanically harrowing beds before crop seeding takes out much of the first generation weeds, said Joel Felix, an Oregon State University weed scientist.

UHR Learning & Development is now accepting FYI Friday presentation proposals for Fall 2023: Does your unit have a new or existing service, process, system, policy or research you want to share with the campus community? FYI Friday is a program where campus partners are invited to present what they’re working on to a broad audience of professional faculty, academic faculty and classified staff. Applications open for the OSU Engagement Awards of Excellence: As part of the planned annual OSU Engagement Conference (Sept. 5-6), we wish to recognize faculty, staff and community partners for their efforts to develop programs or projects that adhere to the principles of community engagement and engaged scholarship, including reciprocal and mutually beneficial outcomes that address key societal issues and contribute to the inclusive prosperity of OSU’s internal and external stakeholders. NEW! Madison Avenue: As part of the Upper Division & Graduate Student Housing project, the roadway and sidewalk median on SW Madison Avenue between SW Ninth and SW 11th Streets will be closed through July 3. The sidewalks on the north side of Madison Avenue and the east side of 11th Street will remain closed through Dec. 31. The sidewalk on the south side Madison will remain open. In addition, several city parking spaces along the west side of SW 11th Street near the intersection with NW Monroe Avenue will be closed through Dec. 31 to allow for construction activities. Student Legacy Park: Student Legacy Park, including all fields, tennis facilities, basketball court and sand volleyball courts will be closed for resurfacing and turf replacement starting on Monday, June 19 and continuing through the summer. The sidewalk on the north side of Washington Way directly adjacent to Student Legacy Park will also be closed. Other possible impacts include noise, dust and mud near the construction site.
Multi-use path: The Campus Way multi-use path will be closed daily from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., to all vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic from June 19-30 for brush clearing and spraying. Work will occur Monday through Friday. The route will reopen after 3 p.m. on weekdays and remain fully open on weekends. The closure will begin just west of the Feed Center and continue down Campus Way to 53rd Street.
