"Fossil fuel subsidies effectively penalize renewable energy production at a time when expanding renewable capacity should be a top priority," the report's lead author William Ripple told Newsweek in an email exchange. Ripple, a distinguished professor at Oregon State University's College of Forestry, linked government support for oil, gas and coal to many of this year's climate extremes. A person suspected of threatening to place a bomb in a robot that delivers food orders on Oregon State University’s campus in Corvallis Tuesday has been arrested, officials said. (see also NBC News, KGW)
The Corvallis Microfluidics Tech Hub is being led by Oregon State University. It focuses on developing microfluidics technology for use in semiconductor and electronic cooling.
Nathan Moses, Oregon State University-Cascades’ interim director of student success, wants to make sure students receive the help they need, whether that’s arranging a virtual therapy session at nine at night or getting them involved in a campus club or trip.
“You plant spring-flowering bulbs in fall, they grow over winter, flourish in spring and go dormant in summer,” said Heather Stoven, a horticulturist with the Oregon State University Extension Service. “Once they’re in the ground, they do quite well over multiple years with little maintenance.”
Scott Lukas, Oregon State University associate professor, said some fruits grown in the Northwest have tight margins, and farms face international competition.

Center for Teaching & Learning Quality Teaching (QT) Talk: Shana Carpenter, School of Psychological Science, will present, “Questions as Teaching Tools: How "Pretrieval" Can Boost Academic Success,” at 11 a.m. Oct. 31 in LINC 343. The research on "retrieval practice" shows that practice questions following a lecture or other learning activity significantly boost students' learning. Attendees will be introduced to new research on the positive effects of asking "pre-questions" prior to a learning activity. The session will review various ways that pre-questions have been incorporated into learning activities, and how they can be leveraged to improve student learning and engagement in real courses. Sewing equipment, materials needed at Craft Center: The OSU Craft Center is looking for working sewing machines or clean fabric donations to meet the growing interest of students looking to learn or improve their sewing skills. Craft Center sewing machines get heavy use and having a few additional working machines on hand would greatly benefit the students who use our sewing studio. Popular fabrics are cotton and polar fleece. Thread, zippers, buttons and other sewing accessories would also be well utilized and appreciated. Have a donation? Ralph Miller Lane: As part of the Reser Stadium Speaker Upgrade project, a section of the roadway and south sidewalk along SW Ralph Miller Lane will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 25 to allow for crane activity. Washington Way: As part of the Washington Way Improvement project, Washington Way between 17th and 26th Streets will remain closed through Tuesday, Oct. 31. In addition to the road closure, the sidewalk on the north side of Washington Way between 17th and 26th Streets will be closed. Pedestrians may use the multi-use path on the south side of Washington Way as a detour.
