Chal Lundgren, a Christmas tree specialist in Oregon State University’s forestry department, says that while Christmas tree growers occasionally find abandoned birds’ nests in trees, in the 30 years he’s been operating his Christmas tree farm in Oregon he’s never found a live bird.
“No matter what you do, there’s going to be needles falling off a real tree,” Chal Landgren, a professor in the department of horticulture at Oregon State University, told Consumer Reports.
“Really what’s going to determine how ugly things get and how concerning they get for both the health of our ecosystems and for our communities are those first rain events that we’re going to get this fall, and really the first couple of years,” Oregon State University’s Bladon said. Search Advocate Workshops: More OSU Search Advocate workshops are now available by Zoom. Search advocates are outside process advisors who participate on employee search committees; their goal is to encourage culture and practices that favor equity, validity and diversity. Search advocacy offers faculty and staff an opportunity to work with colleagues in other parts of the university, build new skills and perspectives, and contribute to the university’s progress towards inclusive excellence. The initial workshop series is a sequence of four 4-hour Zoom workshops. Those who complete the series may choose to have their names added to the Search Advocate Directory and will be eligible to serve as advocates until September 2021. NEW! Holiday safety: Candle fires are more common around the winter holidays. Candles should be placed on a sturdy surface and never left unattended. Working smoke alarms save lives. Test your alarms tonight and replace if they are over 10 years old. When you cook, never leave it unattended and use a lid or baking soda on a cooking fire. Never use water. When using portable space heaters, ensure you unplug them at night and when you leave. Provide at least 36” clearance around a heater.

Dialogue Facilitation Lab Winter 2021 Applications: Applications for the winter 2021 session of the Dialogue Facilitation Lab (DFL) are open. DFL is a professional learning seminar for teaching and professional faculty, staff and graduate assistants looking to integrate critical dialogue facilitation skills into their daily practice. The goal of OSU’s Hearing Conservation Program is to monitor and protect employees who have the potential to develop noise-induced hearing loss – a preventable, permanent and progressive health issue. In collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health Services provides annual hearing tests for those exposed to loud noise on the job.
