Oregon State University scientists find tiny tire particles can harm aquatic life (OPB News)

So scientists at Oregon State University wanted to see if tiny bits of tire plastic, which are too small to even be seen by the naked eye, affect the health of animals like fish and shrimp that are found in coastal and freshwater ecosystems. We’re joined by Stacey Harper, a professor of environmental and molecular toxicology and environmental engineering, and Susanne Brander, an assistant professor in the fisheries, wildlife and conservation sciences department.
 

'Monumental task:' Hundreds of new species added to Oregon Bee Atlas (KGW)

Trained volunteers capture and document bees and submit specimens to Lincoln Best, a bee taxonomist helping lead the Oregon Bee Atlas project through the Oregon State University Extension Service.

For people with chronic pain, research is only beginning to show how widespread the damage from opioid prescription cuts is. One study (involving Oregon State research) examined the medical records of nearly 15,000 Medicaid patients in Oregon who were taking long-term, high doses of opioids.

Campus Recycling is conducting a waste audit on the Corvallis campus (LIFE@OSU)

Oregon State University Campus Recycling is conducting a series of waste audits on university dumpsters through March 11. A random selection of 15 campus buildings was selected for the audit. Waste is being taken to the OSU Long Barn, where volunteers sort it into 20 different categories.

Abstracted: Where Science Meets Art and Music. Works by Jerri Bartholomew. In this series, actual scientific articles (mostly the artist’s) are abstracted to varying degrees and in different ways, using paper collage, glass and music. Each step of abstraction loses scientific data and precision. But by becoming less literal, the artists’ hope is that their abstraction encourages the viewer to curiosity, to questions and to participate in the work. Traffic and Maintenance 

Graf parking lot: As part of the Graf Hall Renovation, the Monroe Avenue and 16th Street parking lot (lot #3221) will be closed for paving and ground floor entries to the building will be inaccessible. Excavation and forming for the concrete work will start on March 7 and will continue through the paving of the lot starting March 14. The lot and ground floor entries will not be closed during this work (March 7-11) but use caution and watch for workers and equipment in the parking lot during this time.
