Dominick DellaSala, forest ecologist and chief scientist at Oregon-based NGO Wild Heritage, and Beverly Law, a forest ecosystem expert at Oregon State University, are among scores of scientists pressing the Biden administration to dramatically expand protections of federal lands, making carbon-dense mature and old-growth forests off-limits to roads, logging and extraction.
According to a report this year from the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute based at Oregon State University, models project warmer and drier summers in Oregon and less winter snowpack. Those factors increase the likelihood of more droughts.

Oregon State University’s Peavy Hall boasts an all-wood design that utilizes cross-laminated timber (CLT) in a unique fashion called post-tensioned rocking shear walls. In addition to resisting lateral forces subjected to the building through wind, the walls are engineered to be able to withstand the largest seismic events and “rock” back into place without losing structural integrity.

Proposals should describe a project that requires $15,000 or less of funding to achieve an important milestone(s) connected to commercialization. Apply for an Affordable Learning Grant by Nov. 30: OSU's Open Educational Resources Unit is accepting proposals for the Affordable Learning Grant. The ALG provides funding to adopt, adapt or author an open educational resource, such as a textbook.
