Wolves are opportunistic scavengers and won’t turn up their nose at a carcass, but the frequency with which seafood appeared in the scat samples suggested it’s “a strategy they’ve adopted,” says study co-author Ellen Dymit, a Ph.D. student in wildlife science at Oregon State University. Several packs chose den sites extremely close to the beach, she says.
Last week, Oregon State University (OSU) announced that it will be awarded a $6.5 million research grant as part of a federal effort to modernize geospatial coordinate system.
Since the onset of the war, an estimated 27% to 35% of all buildings in the northern half of the territory have likely been damaged, according to analysis by Corey Scher of New York's CUNY Graduate Center and Jamon Van Den Hoek of Oregon State University. Throughout the Gaza Strip, they estimate that between 13% and 18% of all structures have been destroyed or damaged, a range of 38,000 to 51,500 buildings.
The annual report has long been alarming., but this year’s edition shifts its tone in a subtle yet notable way. Urgency has moved into fear: Fear of extreme weather, of another lost year without meaningful climate policy, of the cataclysmic feedback loops that could consume the planet if we don’t act now. “The climate situation is much scarier in 2023 [than before],” said lead author Dr. William Ripple, an ecologist at Oregon State University.
The report then connects the dots between research on warming and how that in turn affects people. “Social science is predictive of climate change outcomes in a very serious way,” said Elizabeth Marino, an associate professor of anthropology at Oregon State University Cascades, who led the chapter on social justice. “It’s one thing to say there will be sea level rise and it’s another thing to say these are the processes that lead to who will move and who will not.”

In July 2022, oceanographer Dawn Wright made history by becoming the first Black person to dive to the deepest known spot on the planet. Victor Vescovo, a former Naval officer, entrepreneur and explorer, invited Wright to accompany him on the expedition to descend more than six-and-a-half miles to Challenger Deep in the western Pacific Ocean.

The Dive of a Lifetime to the Deepest Place on Earth: Dawn Wright, a.k.a. "Deepsea Dawn,” is the first Black person to dive to the deepest spot on the entire planet - Challenger Deep. Pedestrian experiment: The OSU School of Civil and Construction Engineering is seeking participants for a study examining how people use intersections. Participants must be at least 18 years old, have normal or corrected-to-normal vision (glasses and contacts are OK) and feel comfortable walking approximately 1 mile total. Attention vehicle owners parked on Southwest 11th Street near campus: City of Corvallis has requested that vehicles parked in a specially marked tow-away zone on 11th Street south of Madison, north of Adams and north of Washington immediately move their vehicles to avoid being towed due to construction work taking place starting Monday.

Traffic diverted to temporary Van Buren bridge starting in mid-November: Commuters to campus may notice a traffic pattern change between downtown Corvallis and the east side of the Willamette River. Starting in mid-November, eastbound traffic will be diverted onto a temporary bridge on NW Van Buren Ave. The temporary bridge includes a separate path for pedestrians and bicyclists. The paths underneath the bridge will remain closed. A temporary signal at NW Van Buren Ave. and NW First Street will control traffic flow and NW First Street will change from two-way to one-way traffic for one block north and south of the Van Buren bridge. Kerr: As part of the Kerr Administration South Parking Lot Improvement project, the Kerr South parking lot closure has been extended until Dec. 4 to finish construction activities, including lighting installation, paving and striping. This includes the closure of the west sidewalk. ADA access is available on the east side of the building.
