Melanoma patients receiving therapy that helps their immune system kill cancer cells respond to treatment differently, depending on the types of microbes in their gut, and new research suggests the microorganisms hindering therapy have more influence than the beneficial ones. Findings by a collaboration that included researchers at Oregon State University, the National Cancer Institute, the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and the University of Pittsburgh were published today in Nature Medicine.
According to James Hermes, a retired professor and poultry specialist at Oregon State University, the Willamette Valley has been popular for broiler chicken production for decades. The number of farms has condensed in the last 30 years due to costs, and those bigger operations need to be closer to areas where farmers get chicks and chicken feed and closer to the factories that process the chickens for market.
Monday was another one of those big days. A subcommittee of the Oregon Legislature approved $10 million to unleash an innovation district on the campus. The subcommittee vote is not the same thing as having the money. As you know, there are ways Oregon legislative sessions go sideways. But it’s close.

Booster clinic: The Beaver Booster Clinic is moving indoors this week on the Corvallis campus. The walk-up clinic takes place in Memorial Union 62 through March 4, noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Starting March 7 it moves back to the SEC Plaza through March 18. All COVID-19 vaccines available, including doses for children. No insurance, ID or appointment required but bring your CDC vaccine card if you have one.

Album Club: "Let It Bleed" by The Rolling Stones. "Let It Bleed" was released in 1969, shortly after the Stones toured the U.S. that year, and at a particularly tumultuous time for the band. Wellness Festival: Join ASOSU on March 3 for a Wellness Festival. The goal is to highlight specific services students can access to improve their wellness and to provide tools that they can use as they go into finals week and beyond.
