Joint Service Review: The Army, Navy/Marine and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Programs (ROTC) at Oregon State University will hold their annual Joint Service Review at 10 a.m., May 5 in the Memorial Union Quad. This event is a longstanding tradition that allows cadets and midshipmen to participate in a formal review before commissioning as officers in the various military services. The reviewing official and guest speaker will be Major General Michael E. Stencel.

Valley Library open house: The OSU Libraries and Press open house takes place 2-4 p.m., May 5 at the Valley Library. The library made many changes in the last couple years and staff will showcase some of the current, new and upcoming spaces and projects. There will be an opportunity to tour the library while looking for key displays and areas on each floor.

Master Gardener Annual Plant Sale & Clinic: Every first Saturday in May, the Benton County Master Gardener Association holds its Plant Sale & Clinic under cover at the fairgrounds' Solar Barn and Floral Courtyard, featuring over 10,000 plants — perennials, natives, edibles, trees and shrubs. Master Gardeners available to answer gardening questions. Pet Day: Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine Pet Day is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 6. Come over to Magruder Hall for family- and pet-friendly activities to learn more about veterinary medicine. Activities include hospital tours, a 5K Fun Run, bounce house, teddy bear surgery, dog-wash and nail-trim station, a variety of animal-themed vendors and so much more. Ken van Holde symposium and celebration: University Distinguished Professor Kensai E. van Holde will be commemorated in a day-long symposium May 13 at the Linus Pauling Science Center. Monthly Emergency Preparedness Topic: Recreational Water Safety. Whether a tiny trickle of a creek, enough to cool your toes, or the vast expanses of beaches, water adds an exciting element to outdoor recreation. Even the most seasoned water enthusiasts can be surprised by changing water conditions. Know the local weather conditions and forecast before swimming or boating. Always use approved life jackets.
OSU's Open Educational Resources Unit is accepting proposals for the Affordable Learning Grant until May 19: The grant provides funding to adopt, adapt or author an open educational resource, such as a textbook. An open textbook is one that is published under an open copyright license and is made freely available online for students, faculty and the public. All funding is a department-to-department transfer. OSU Klatowa Ina Royalty Program: Students are invited to apply to the Klatowa Ina Royalty Program. Applications are due by May 7. The 2023 Klatowa Ina Royalty will be presented with the Oregon State University regalia at the Klatowa Ina Pow-Wow taking place on May 20. The Klatowa Ina Royalty will continue to represent the OSU Native and Indigenous community at surrounding Pow-Wows and cultural events. This is a paid internship with a travel stipend. Madison Avenue: As part of the Upper Division and Graduate Housing Project, sidewalks and city parking spaces will be closed along SW 11th St. and SW Madison Ave. Sidewalks and parking spaces will be closed on the east side of SW 11th St. from NW Monroe Ave. to SW Madison Ave. Sidewalks and parking spaces will be closed on the westbound side of SW Madison Ave. from SW Ninth St. to SW 11th St. These closures will be in effect through the end of the year.
