“The majority of research that has been done investigating the capacity for coral reefs to survive and persist under ocean warming and acidification has been gained from short-term experiments, one-month duration on average, based in indoor laboratories in empty glass tanks,” says lead author, Rowan McLachlan (OSU), “While informative, these studies are limited in their ability to predict how coral will respond in the wild where the environment is much more complex.”
Becky Johnson, interim president of Oregon State University, will give the commencement address at OSU-Cascades’ graduation ceremony on June 12. Johnson served as vice president of OSU-Cascades from 2009 until 2021, when she was appointed the first woman to lead OSU.

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine develops into war, and as Russia targets civilian populations, issues related to human suffering and the conduct of war take center stage. Native American undergrads in natural science summer internships eligible for $2,900 supplemental funding. Students must self-identify as Native American, be enrolled at OSU or SWOCC as an undergrad, and complete at least 8 weeks of an approved summer internship. Beyond Earth Day: Beyond Earth Day is a week-long celebration April 16-22 that highlights activities that celebrate or educate on the well-being of our society, economy and planet.
