Somebody should count the fires and see if that's true. Actually, the work has been done, with Oregon State University in the lead. And the findings run counter to the perception: in 22,000+ fires, ignition happened twice as often on private land, and spread to the public land. And ignition sources were more often people than lightning.
The study led by Oregon State University’s Linnia Hawkins, which covered 2017 and 2018, looked at the role climate change may have played in extreme fire weather conditions that accompanied recent large September, October and November fires in the two states. It started with a dead bird. About a year ago, the ill-fated avian crashed into Oregon State University professor Hannah Gosnell’s window. It lay on the pavement below, barely alive. For the next few days, Gosnell tried to nurse the bird back to health, asking her neighbor and renowned ornithologist Sue Haig for advice. Nothing helped, and the bird passed away much to Gosnell’s dismay.
Oregon State University student Jax Richards has been selected as a finalist for the Truman Scholarship, considered one of the most prestigious and selective scholarships in the United States.
The bill also sets harvest tax rates for a couple of programs that got caught in a political crossfire between the House and Senate at the close of the 2021 regular session. The new rates, which are retroactive to the start of this year, cover funding for Department of Forestry enforcement of the Oregon Forest Practices Act and professional education by the College of Forestry at Oregon State University.

4th annual “Writing (PNW) Black History into Wikipedia” event: Valley Library is partnering with the national non-profit AfroCROWD for the editathon, which will focus on improving existing Wikipedia articles and creating new articles. Orange & Black Concert: This annual concert to raise awareness of vocal and choral scholarships at Oregon State University will feature the Oregon State University Chamber Choir, Meistersingers and Bella Voce choirs.
