Gray whales visit Oregon's coast every summer. And every summer Leigh Torres is out on the ocean right there with them. "We do these sort of health check-ups on individual whales," she said. Torres and a team of researchers have been studying the whales off Oregon's coast for the last five summers.

Softphone success helps Office of the Registrar transition to remote work (LIFE@OSU)

During the first week of spring term, four employees in the Office of the Registrar fielded 438 calls — often past graduates asking for transcripts, or students looking to change courses or check their academic records. And for the first time, the team did it all using computer-based “softphones” that place calls via the internet, thanks to the foresight and technical savvy of the office’s operations manager, Jocelyn Orr, and administrative program specialist, Cindy Smith.

Live webcast with OSU Softball Coach Laura Berg: Laura Berg became the Beavers softball coach in 2012 as one of the most decorated players in softball history. She has four Olympic medals in softball and won a college world series as a player for Fresno State where she was a four-time All-American. She also has four world championships with the USA national team. NEW! Music à la Carte (Facebook Live): Gideon Freudmann, cello. The Music à la Carte concert series continues with a series of Facebook Live events on Fridays, keeping alive the decades-long tradition while following Oregon State University’s commitment to help reduce the risk and spread of COVID-19. Next up on Friday, May 1 at noon, is cellist and composer Gideon Freudmann. Freudmann is a founding member of the Portland Cello Project and the band Caravan Gogh. One of the early cellists to embrace the electronic cello, Freudmann utilizers foot-operated effect pedals to loop and multi-layer his compositions and improvisations. OSULP announces Visualize Your Bibliography Competition winners: OSULP is pleased to announce the winners of the Visualize Your Bibliography Competition. The contest required graduate students to creatively display at least twenty sources from a thesis or other long-term research project.
