Oregon Birding Association member Nolan Clements, who is also a Ph.D. student with Oregon State University’s Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Sciences, told KOIN the blue rock thrush is native to Europe and Asia and is not known to inhabit any part of North America.

Dawn Wright (aka "Deepsea Dawn"): Chief Scientist of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) and a professor of Geography and Oceanography at Oregon State University. On July 12, 2022, she became the first and only Black person to dive to "Challenger Deep", which is the deepest known point on the Earth's seabed.
“The problem is that there are no standards to which researchers are held in designating their study organism as a keystone,” said Bruce Menge, a community ecologist at Oregon State University and another former Paine graduate student. “Anyone is free to suggest, argue or speculate that their species is a keystone.”

The number of grants awarded to state universities, startups and nonprofits grew by 3% to 789 in 2023 and the amount of funding rose 4.6% to $427.6 million, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. State NIH funding peaked during the pandemic in 2020 when it reached $436 million from 803 awards.

OSU International Film Festival: Nahanni: River of Forgiveness. "Nahanni: River of Forgiveness" is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Geoff Bowie and released in 2019. The film centers on a 2018 project by twelve Dene people from the Northwest Territories to recreate a traditional expedition on the Nahanni River in a mooseskin canoe. 6 p.m., April 29 at Darkside Cinema in Corvallis; free and open to all.

Four-time GRAMMY winners Eighth Blackbird: PRAx Presents Eighth Blackbird and the OSU Wind Ensemble at 7 p.m. May 2 in Detrick Hall at PRAx. Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women/People Awareness Day: Two days of events sponsored by kaku-ixt mana ina haws and Indigenous Studies will mark this celebration. Deborah Miranda is known for her book “Bad Indians: A Tribal Memoir,” and ire’ne lara silva was recognized as the 2023 Texas State Poet Laureate with her most recent collection “The Eaters of Flowers” released in 2024. OSU 'Flash' Panel: NATO: Past, Present, Future? Seventy-five years ago, the United States helped to create the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a transatlantic mutual defense alliance whose founding document famously declared that an attack on one is an attack on all. The future of NATO is unsure — the upcoming presidential election might alter America's relationship to the alliance. Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund: Bring a current Fulbright Visiting Scholar from another university in the U.S. to OSU. A typical OLF visit is 2-5 days long, with the scholar completing guest lectures, cultural events and other similar engagements on and off campus. All expenses are covered by Fulbright with no financial commitment required from OSU. Applications accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Automated Driving System research: The School of Civil and Construction Engineering and the School of Psychological Science are seeking paid volunteers for research studies. The purpose of this research study is to make Automated Driving System (ADS) vehicles safer for pedestrians with disabilities. To participate in one of the studies, you must identify as having a visual, hearing and/or mobility disability and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers must commit 60 minutes to the research and will either wear a VR headset or a light-weight wearable device.
