"We usually will require a couple years of normal or slightly above normal precipitation to recover all those water deficits that we accrued," said Larry O'Neill, the Oregon State climatologist associate professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. "The drought from last year really likely was not going to recover with just one year. So even if we had a good year, good winter, this year, it probably wouldn't have fully recovered."

Mid-Month Emergency Preparedness Topic: Food. If an earthquake, winter storm or other disaster strikes your community, you might not have access to food, water and electricity for days or even weeks. By taking time now to store emergency food supplies, you can provide for your entire family. People can survive for long periods of time without food. However, going days without eating can cause nutrient deficiencies and unpleasant – even dangerous – side effects. Consider maintaining a two week food supply. COVID-19 testing: Oregon State University, in collaboration with Willamette Valley Toxicology (WVT), is providing on-site COVID-19 testing. NCORE 2022 Scholarship and Activities: The National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE) will be held in Portland, May 31-June 4. Power outages for multiple buildings March 22: For work related to the Community Hall Slope Project, a series of planned power outages are scheduled for multiple buildings along or near SW Jefferson Way. Outages are scheduled for Tuesday, March 22, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. in the following buildings: Buxton Hall, Callahan Hall, Cauthorn Hall, Hawley Hall, McNary Hall, Poling Hall and Wilson Hall. Several other buildings will be without power and closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 22: Heckart Lodge, Kerr Administration Building, McAlexander Field House, McNary Dining Hall (the Service Center will be open), Reed Lodge, Snell Hall and West Dining Hall. To prepare for these outages, please turn off all computers, printers, copiers and other electronic devices before Tuesday. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well.

NEW! Graf Hall stairway closure: As part of the Graf Hall Renovation Project, the main stairway in Graf Hall will be closed for flooring installation through Friday, March 18 (view map). EXTENDED: Monroe Avenue and 16th Street parking lot: As part of the Graf Hall Renovation, the closure of the Monroe Avenue and 16th Street parking lot (lot #3221) is being extended through Friday, March 18 for striping work (view map). Building entrances accessed from the parking lot will not be available while striping work occurs. Alternate entrances to the building will need to be used. Fairbanks renovation: As part of the Fairbanks Hall Renovation Project, demolition of the old Fairbanks Annex existing concrete pad, along with the preparation and placement of new concrete for a new transformer pad by the Women’s Building, will occur onsite during the week of Spring Break from March 21-25. The sidewalk located between the Women’s Building and Fairbanks Hall will be temporarily closed at that time. There will be truck traffic in and out of the Fairbanks Hall worksite using the 35th Street/Jefferson Way route. Expect noise as existing concrete is broken up, demolished and hauled away. The concrete breaking activities will start no earlier than 8 a.m.
Steam shutdown: For work related to the Community Hall Slope Project, a series of planned steam shutdowns are scheduled. The planned steam shutdowns will impact multiple buildings located along or near SW Jefferson Way in the Community Hall Slope Project work area. Planned steam shutdowns are scheduled March 23-26. Buildings include Callahan Hall, Gladys Valley Gymnastics Center, McNary Dining Hall, McNary Hall, Pharmacy Building and Wilson Hall.
