OSU MANRRS fundraiser: From 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Feb. 2, OSU MANNRS will be holding a fundraiser on the SEC Plaza, featuring hot chocolate and churros. These fundraisers allow the group to send members to conferences across the U.S., embark on service-learning trips including Puerto Rico as well as etiquette dinners, and to add community-building events such as painting tote bags to their meetings. Music à la Carte: Morris Northcutt, trumpet, with Lauren Servias, collaborative pianist. Multi-award-winning trumpeter Morris Northcutt is known for his lyricism, artistry and ability to cross the boundary between classical and jazz. Lauren Servias is a Corvallis-based performer and teacher and served on the music faculty at OSU for nine years, where she was the music director and pianist for OSU Opera and collaborative pianist for OSU’s Bella Voce choir. Noon, Feb. 2 in the MU Lounge; admission is free.

College of Health Friday research seminar: Christian Grov, professor and chair at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy and the CUNY Institute for Implementation Science in Population Health, will present “If We Want to Make Progress in the HIV Epidemic Among Sexual and Gender Minorities, It’s Time we Started Talking About Meth Again,” from 1-2 p.m., Feb. 2 in HFC 115/Bray Leadership Conference Room and via Zoom.

Exploring Consciousness: Each week we will explore different forms of consciousness inquiry. Classes will cover a variety of techniques from different traditions: meditation, contemplation, movement, and sounding. NEW! Diversity Science Colloquia: Seeing Asian Americans with Jin X. Goh. Jin X. Goh is an assistant professor of psychology at Colby College. Goh will focus on how the perceived prototypicality of East Asians and the non-prototypicality of South Asians are limited to the U.S. and not the UK, owing to different historical patterns of Asian migrations in the two countries, and will discuss the theoretical and methodological implications of having an East Asian prototype. 4 p.m., Feb. 5 in the George W. Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar: Emily Yeh (University of CO Boulder) will discuss some of the multidimensional impacts climate change is having on the Tibetan Plateau. The talk will also explain climate justice and why Tibetan herders are experiencing impacts of injustice through environmental change and the policies being proposed for adaptation. 4:30 p.m., Feb. 5 in the Journey Room (MU 104). Application opening Feb. 5 for WOHESC funding: The Sustainability Office, Community Engagement & Leadership, and ASOSU are excited to offer OSU students an opportunity to attend the 2024 Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) taking place March 4-6 at Western Washington University. Up to 18 students will be funded to participate. Funding will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis to students who complete the application opening by 7 p.m., Feb. 5.  

NEW! Tree School: Tree School Clackamas, Oregon’s largest forestry and natural resource education event of the year, will open registration at 10 a.m., Feb. 6. The Clackamas Tree School on Saturday, March 23, will feature 73 classes covering key topics to support the successful management of small woodlands. People can register online, in person or by mail. NEW! $15K of funding available: The OSU Advantage Accelerator is currently seeking applications that describe technology-based projects in any discipline that will move OSU-owned technologies closer to commercialization. Proposals should describe a project that requires $15,000 or less of funding to achieve an important milestone(s) connected to commercialization. Each project may be awarded up to $15,000 and should span six months or less, beginning in March 2024.
