Shifting gears: Northwest women promote inclusive cycling (OPB News)

During World War II, Schryver taught advanced landscape design at Oregon State University. They created welcoming parks, school yards and institutional campuses, and tamed wilderness such as the Breitenbush Hot Springs resort surrounded by the Willamette National Forest, said Valencia Libby, author of the new book, “The Northwest Gardens of Lord & Schryver” ($29.95, Oregon State University Press).
 

OSU honors Black Excellence (LIFE@OSU)

More than a dozen Black faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members were honored at this year’s Oregon State University Black Excellence event on Feb. 3, held at Reser Stadium. Sponsored by Oregon State Athletics and the OSU Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the formal event featured dinner and an awards ceremony.

College of Public Health and Human Sciences Friday Research Seminar: “Reductions in air pollution and emergency room visits among patients with asthma or COPD due to California’s goods movement policies: A quasi-experimental study” will be presented by Ying-Ying Meng, director of research at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, Feb. 11, 1-2 p.m., in HFC 115 and via Zoom. University Theatre: Ellis Island, a new play by OSU Theatre student Leah Kahn will run in the Withycombe Hall Lab Theatre, Feb. 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. In appreciation of being back in front of a live audience, tickets for all University Theatre productions are complimentary this term and can be reserved. OSU students and employees who have complied with OSU vaccination policies may show their OSU ID for entrance to this event. TRIAD 2022-23 Service Scholarship: The TRIAD Service Scholarship recognizes service as a value worthy of encouragement. This year the award is for $500. Consideration will be given to undergraduates who are juniors or seniors during the 2022-23 academic year. Students may be enrolled in Corvallis, Cascades or Ecampus. Applications will be evaluated based on undergraduate academic record (cumulative GPA, progress toward degree) and the significance of service activities. Deadline April 1. Faculty Awards Solicitation: The Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for individual awards. Apply for an Affordable Learning Grant: OSU's Open Educational Resources Unit is accepting proposals for the Affordable Learning Grant through March 29. The grant provides funding to adopt, adapt or author an open educational resource, such as a textbook. An open textbook is one that is published under an open copyright license and made freely available online for students, faculty and the public. All funding is a department-to-department transfer. The 34th Annual Provost’s Literary Prize for undergraduate students at OSU is open for submissions. Keith Scribner in the School of Writing, Literature and Film and the screening committee are seeking help from faculty to identify candidates for the prize. The literary work can be fiction, poetry, drama, or creative nonfiction written for a general audience. The winner will be awarded $500 and on-campus publication. Submission details can be found here. Deadline: Tuesday, Feb. 15. The Provost will announce the winner in May 2022.

Looking for Unsung Heroes: We are looking for submissions from the Oregon State community to highlight OSU employees and students who are not typically in the spotlight but who are going above and beyond in their work or personal lives.
