COVID testing: Oregon State University, in collaboration with Willamette Valley Toxicology, is providing on-site COVID-19 testing on the OSU main campus, as well as at the OSU-Cascades campus. OSU employees and students, regardless of vaccination status, are welcome to obtain a test at one of these locations. Results from tests administered at campus locations will be provided confidentially from the processing lab to Student Health Services. Results will be available by logging onto the secure Student Health Services Portal with ONID credentials. Tests are at no cost to the employee or student when insurance information is provided. If you are a faculty or staff and looking for a voluntary COVID-test, please create a LabDash account before coming in for a test, this is mandatory for voluntary testing. Testing locations in Corvallis: The LaSells Stewart Center: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Student Experience Center: Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. In Bend, Ray Hall 302, Monday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.-7 p.m.; Tuesday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Face coverings now required in OSU indoor settings: Face coverings are now required, regardless of vaccination status, in all indoor settings at OSU. This includes but is not limited to public and private workplaces, businesses, indoor areas open to the public, building lobbies, common or shared spaces, classrooms, elevators, bathrooms, transportation services, dining centers, recreation centers and other indoor spaces where people may gather for any purpose. Masks are not required when individuals are in their personal offices and have their door closed. Face coverings are also required outdoors as per State of Oregon rule 333-019-1025 if physical distancing of at least 6 feet can’t be maintained.
Vaccine compliance: Effective Sept. 15, Oregon State University requires employees and students who work, learn or engage with others in-person as part of their job duties to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19. OSU employees and students who are required to comply and who meet an exemption not to be vaccinated, will be required to test for COVID-19 weekly until further notice. The Oregon State University Board of Trustees will meet Oct. 6-8 to discuss action items, the 2022 work plan and the process and timeline for the next presidential search. There will also be a panel discussion with faculty members on the university’s efforts to advance equity, inclusion and social justice.

These swaths of hypoxic areas have surfaced every summer on Pacific Northwest shores since it was first recorded in 2002. They are spurred by naturally occurring coastal upwellings and algae blooms, exacerbated by climate change, said Francis Chan, director of the Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies at Oregon State University. A recent study from Oregon State University’s veterinary college found that planting hedgerows in pasture-raised chicken farms may reduce heat stress to help certain chicken breeds grow faster and increase their immune response to better enable them to fight off pathogens.
The research, which was done by a team at Oregon State University, also found that 64 percent of cats showed what is known as a "secure" attachment style, meaning they showed no signs of distress when their caregivers left the room and a healthy mix of attachment and exploration when they returned.

October Flu Shot Clinics: Flu shot clinics are scheduled for OSU faculty, staff and students this October at various locations. The Flu Shot Clinic Sign-up portal is now open and working for the Corvallis flu shot clinic at the MU Ballroom. Detailed instructions are located on the HR Website here. Beginning Oct. 5, employees can sign up for the Oct. 19 clinic at: www.krogerhealth.com/partnerscheduling. You must enter your insurance information in the portal. It will state it is optional but for OSU employees it is not optional. If you do not provide this your appointment time may be delayed. The last day to schedule for Oct. 19 is Oct. 13. In Newport, OSU employees in the Newport area can access a flu shot clinic on Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at Hatfield Marine Science Center. NEW! FYI Friday – What is Reasonable? The ADA Employment Accommodations Process: Under Title I of the ADA, all employees at OSU with documented disabilities are protected from discrimination. This protection applies from the job application, through the hiring process and into the work environment. These employees are also entitled to reasonable accommodations or modifications that would enable them to have an equal opportunity to perform their job duties. But what is a reasonable accommodation and how is it decided? Join this session hosted by a campus Accommodations Associate who will discuss what the process of accommodations can look like for both employee and supervisor, how reasonable accommodations are decided or implemented, and examples of possible outcomes. Recreational Sports Membership: Invest in your health and well-being with a Rec Sports membership. NW Harrison Boulevard full closure (24/7) between NW 31st Street and NW 34th Street. As part of the 2021-22 Street Resurfacing Project along NW Harrison Boulevard, NW Harrison Boulevard will be closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week between NW 31st Street and NW 34th Street from Sept. 20-30.
