A chemical element shows a “Goldilocks” level of reactivity, neither too much nor too little, that makes it a strong candidate as a carbon scrubbing tool, Oregon State University (OSU) tells us in a media release. (see also Energy Daily, KTVZ)
Parker said significantly more veterinarians are being trained now than in past decades. She said Oregon State University, where she previously taught, has more than doubled its class size in the last 30 years. New veterinarian programs are also opening in other parts of the country. But, she said low-cost spay and neuter clinics may not soon see the benefits of academia’s efforts to increase the pipeline, since heavy student debt may leave many graduates feeling that they can’t afford to work at a nonprofit, or local government clinic.
Hurst is also a professor and co-founder of the Oregon State University Robotics Institute. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering and an M.S. and Ph.D. in robotics, all from Carnegie Mellon University. Hurst’s university research focuses on understanding the fundamental science and engineering best practices for robotic legged locomotion and physical interaction.

"No Future": A New Play by Sophie Brown. Internationalization grant: The deadline for the 2023-24 Internationalization Grant has been extended to 5 p.m., Feb. 16. Grants of up to $5,000 are offered for projects that advance internationalization within one of three tracks, aligned with “Prosperity Widely Shared”: Research and Innovation; Global and Intercultural Learning; and Career and Workforce Development. Climate Change Anxiety Survey: Feelings of distress because of climate change have become a growing concern, especially among younger generations. Sabine Huemer, professor of practice at the School of Psychological Science at OSU, is examining climate change anxiety among OSU students to help tailor intervention programs. Amrita Menon (biology and psychology) and Isabelle Hall (biochemistry) are two undergraduate student collaborators through the URSA-Engage program.
