Drug delivery researchers at Oregon State University have developed a device with the potential to improve gene therapy for patients with inherited lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
Pettit has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Oregon State University, and a doctorate in chemical engineering from University of Arizona. Before his work with NASA, Pettit worked as a staff scientist at the Los Alamon National Laboratory in New Mexico.
Why is a GPU workstation useful? The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Bioacoustics Lab is based in Corvallis, Oregon, and operates in a close partnership between the US Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station and Oregon State University. It has been using AI (artificial intelligence) for animal identification for many years and is now seeking at how to increase the sampling rate and reduce data ingestion through edge computing technologies.

Holocaust Memorial Week: OSU has observed Holocaust Memorial Week every year since 1987. The breadth and the duration of OSU’s effort are unmatched in the Pacific Northwest. This program grows from the belief that educational institutions can do much to combat prejudice of all kinds, and to foster respect for the diversity that is America, by promoting an awareness of the Holocaust, perhaps the most horrific historical indicator of the high cost of prejudice. OSU Wind Ensemble: The Student Arts Season at PRAx kicks off with the Oregon State University Wind Ensemble 7 p.m. May 14 in Detrick Hall at PRAx. The OSU Wind Ensemble features the most outstanding brass, woodwind and percussion players on campus. This 50-member ensemble explores new literature and performs the masterworks of the wind band ensemble genre. The windensemble is directed by Erik Leung, director of bands at OSU. Phish Studies Conference: OSU and the Mockingbird Foundation are honored to host the second Phish Studies Conference featuring research presentations and community events about the improvisational rock band Phish, as well as its fans and culture. Human-Robot Interaction Research Study: Oregon State University Mechanical Engineering is conducting a research study to better understand how people interact with robot arms in mock collaboration tasks. The study lasts for about one hour. The full study title is “Evaluating Expressive Behaviors for an Interactive Robot Arm,” and the principal investigator is Prof. Naomi Fitter. Automated Driving System research: The School of Civil and Construction Engineering and the School of Psychological Science are seeking paid volunteers for research studies. The purpose of this research study is to make Automated Driving System (ADS) vehicles safer for pedestrians with disabilities. To participate in one of the studies, you must identify as having a visual, hearing and/or mobility disability, and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers must commit 60 minutes to the research and will either wear a VR headset or a light-weight wearable device. Employee Community Climate Survey: The 2024 OSU Employee Community Climate Survey launched on May 3 with an email invitation to employees from the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID). To make positive change, it is critical that we understand the experiences of OSU employees shared through the survey. Please check your email to access the survey link. 2025 Faculty Fellowship Program Consortium-Directed Funding: The NW CASC is now accepting proposals for our 2025 Faculty Fellowship Program. This last-mile program aims to support efforts to make existing research more usable for natural and cultural resource managers facing climate-related risks and challenges. To achieve this aim, the program supports research involving faculty at NW CASC Consortium institutions and provides skills-building opportunities around the co-production of decision-relevant (i.e., "actionable”) science. Funding runs Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2025. Deadline to submit proposals is July 15.
