Oregon Health Authority reports rise in COVID-19 cases after 2-plus months of declines (KTVZ)

Starting Wednesday, OHA will update ongoing COVID-19 variant reporting within its wastewater dashboard. Oregon State University, OHA’s partner in wastewater surveillance, is now able to detect COVID-19 variants in wastewater at lower levels and the updated wastewater dashboard will reflect this enhanced surveillance capacity. In addition, the dashboard will now also display whether a variant was detected in wastewater at low, medium or high levels.
 

Many Oregon farm workers suffered during the pandemic, report finds (Central Oregon Daily)

The team, comprised of researchers from Oregon State University, Portland State University, University of Oregon, Oregon Health and Sciences University and the California Institute for Rural Studies, conducted an initial survey of 300 farmworkers across the state between August and September 2020, and also conducted in-depth interviews with 48 workers between February and July 2021. Dr. Francis Chan of Oregon State University to enhance subtidal and intertidal OAH monitoring at Oregon’s Marine Reserves. A total of $385,088 will guide future state investments that protect ecologically important places in Oregon’s Territorial Sea.

An Earth Day Fashion Show at Central Oregon Community College from 2-3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at the college’s Coats Campus Center will benefit the Clothing Connection program, a free service that provides school and work clothing to students of COCC and Oregon State University-Cascades.

CIC Forum: As announced in November, planning for the Collaborative Innovation Complex is underway. Located at the heart of the Corvallis campus, the CIC is envisioned as 150,000 square feet of space that will host OSU’s most advanced research infrastructure, with a goal of supporting team-based interdisciplinary research and education in climate and marine science, engineering and robotics, artificial intelligence and computation, materials science and health science. Provost Feser and the CIC executive committee invite you to learn more. Orange Media wins awards: Orange Media Network students at Oregon State University won a first place for breaking news coverage and placed as finalists in four categories total in the Region 10 Mark of Excellence Awards sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists. Sukhjot Sal, a reporter and copy editor for The Daily Barometer, won first place for breaking news for her October 2021 coverage of an anti-abortion protest on campus. First-place winners will go on to compete at the national level among other regional MOE winners from the 12 SPJ regions.

Search Advocate Workshop: OSU Search Advocate workshops for the rest of this academic/fiscal year are available for registration. Search advocates are content-neutral outside process advisors who participate on employee search committees; their goal is to encourage culture and practices that favor equity, validity and diversity. The initial workshop series is a sequence of four 4-hour Zoom workshops. Cat study: The OSU College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking cats with chronic kidney disease to participate in a research study evaluating variation of the major blood kidney values over time. Participation in this study involves: bringing your cat to the OSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital once a week for six weeks; a $125 Visa gift card and three months of kidney prescription diet upon completion. Cats have a blood draw once a week for six weeks and receive labs and kidney ultrasound at enrollment. For more information, please contact the principal investigator, Dr. Stacie Summers, at Stacie.summers@oregonstate.edu

Traffic and Maintenance

Sidewalk closure on Jefferson: For work related to the Community Hall Slope Project, a sidewalk closure on the north side of Jefferson Avenue from 15th Street to Benton Place is scheduled (view map). The sidewalk closure is scheduled for Monday, April 4, through Sunday, May 15. Pedestrian detour signs will be in place throughout the closure.
