Susanne Brander, an associate professor and ecotoxicologist at Oregon State University, called the decision a great move, but cautioned that the lethal impacts on salmon are likely from more than just 6PPD. She said she is also concerned about whatever chemical tire manufacturers eventually use to replace it.
“This one’s deciding to be difficult,” he says, gently coaxing it out onto the branch of a holly bush sitting in a vase in the Oregon State University undergraduate’s lab. “In general, bugs are annoying. They’re very finicky.”
The new, $75 million Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts on the Oregon State University campus is a few months away from opening its doors to the public. Crews are hard at work trying to make the center, also referred to as "PRAx," a reality. Peter Betjemann is the executive director of the project and could not be more excited about it.
One important aspect that scientists say must be included in the treaty is the simplification of chemicals in order to reduce the negative impacts they have on humans and other living organisms. "Thousands of chemicals are used in the production of plastics, and the vast majority of these are not regulated globally " Susanne M. Ancient tree: Kimberly Copeland, procurement & business systems manager with UHDS, says, “Just as you enter Rockaway Beach Oregon, you can access Cedar Wetland Preserve. Art exhibit: The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology has announced the opening of an art exhibition showcasing eight larger than life works by Maxwell Eckelbarger. Displayed on the first and second floors of Cordley Hall, the exhibition is made up of two collections on loan from the Plant Cell Atlas Consortium and Carnegie Institution for Science, Department of Plant Biology (Stanford, CA). Deadline extended: The Open Educational Resources Unit is accepting proposals for the Affordable Learning Grant until Nov. 30. Faculty can receive up to $15,000 in funding to adopt, adapt or author an open educational resource (OER) for your course. OER are openly licensed course materials that save students money and make higher education more accessible. Blood sugar study participants sought: Researchers in the College of Health at OSU are studying the effects of an FDA-approved drug on people at risk for high blood sugar. We are looking for study participants between the age of 18-59, who are nonsmokers, and who do not have diabetes. The study involves several visits to the Samaritan Athletic Medicine Center in Corvallis over approximately 4 months. Faculty Senate Elections – Faculty with Split Appointments: Non-tenured faculty who have split appointments between two apportionment units may choose with which unit they wish to be apportioned for Faculty Senate purposes. For example, if a faculty member has a split appointment between Agricultural Sciences and Science, they may choose one or the other (FTE will not be split between apportionment units). This choice will determine Faculty Senate representation. No later than noon Nov. 14, complete and submit the survey at https://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1LcbN37K4QRvr02 to indicate with which apportionment unit you wish to be included.

NEW! May Ave: As part of the Pride Center Renovation project, a section of SW May Avenue will be closed Nov. 6-8. The impacted section is located between SW 15th and SW 16th Streets, directly behind the Pride Center. Several parking spaces along May Avenue will also be closed.
Sackett Hall: As part of the Nash Hall Cooling Tower Replacement project, the Sackett Hall North parking lot (#3303) will be partially closed on Monday, Nov. 6 to allow for crane activity. The closure will impact parking spaces on the east side of the lot, closest to Nash Hall. The southwest basement and south first floor entrances to Nash Hall will also be closed. The northeast entrance and the loading dock will remain open.
Campus Way: As part of the Kelley District Utility Plant project, SW Campus Way will be closed between SW 26th Street and SW Memorial Place starting Monday, Nov. 6 through Wednesday, Nov. 15 to allow for crane activity. The south entrance at Kelley Engineering Center will also be closed.
Kerr: As part of the Kerr Administration South Parking Lot Improvement project, the Kerr South parking lot closure has been extended until Dec. 4 to finish construction activities, including lighting installation, paving and striping. This includes the closure of the west sidewalk. ADA access is available on the east side of the building.
