A new Oregon State University Beaver license plate could be up for grabs in the near future. The license plate, emblazoned with the OSU beaver logo and the rings of a tree, is expected to be made public this fall and pre-sales are available on the OSU website. (see also Oregonian)
For students who are interested in activewear or sustainability, seeking an education in the Pacific Northwest may be a suitable choice––Oregon State University alumni find themselves working with nearby, big-name companies like Nike, Adidas, and Columbia Sportswear. The program offers tracks in both design and merchandising and the chance to explore fashion through the lens of sports business and sustainability, too.
The search for a new and more sustainable type of battery goes on and there’s a couple of great front runners I’ve reported on here. Now thanks to researchers at Oregon State University, there’s a new dog in the race. Iron, instead of cobalt and nickel which are used to make the current generation of lithium ion batteries.

Gerontology conference: The 47th Annual Gerontology Conference, “Healthy Aging-Friendly Communities: Connecting People and Places through Research and Practice,” will be held Friday, May 31, at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center on the OSU campus. Gerontology professionals from across the country will present more than 25 educational aging-friendly topics for health and human service professionals and the public. University Budget Committee meeting on Friday: The committee will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on May 31 via Zoom and in B011 Kerr Admin. Bldg. FYI Friday – Medicare Part A & B: When & How. This course is intended for employees reaching Medicare eligibility and/or Medicare eligible employees losing PEBB health benefits due to retirement, reduced FTE or leaving OSU employment. Cheyney Ryan was one of the faculty members that helped negotiate between the administration and the protest encampment at the University of Oregon, allowing the encampment to disband after it had won significant demands. OSU ID Card update – action needed by June 30: The OSU Key Shop and the ID Center are collaborating on a project to update the building access control system and ensure that all students, faculty and staff obtain an Orange ID card. An Orange ID has a bright orange border on the front of the card and says “Orange Card” on the bottom edge. This project will impact users who received their current cards BEFORE July 2019 and did not obtain an Orange ID. If you received your current ID card after this date, no action is needed. To maintain building access, all users must obtain an Orange ID card by June 30. For more information: https://beav.es/pJG.

Employee Community Climate Survey: Final reminder: The 2024 OSU Employee Community Climate Survey launched on May 3 with an email invitation to employees from the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID). NEW! 30th Street: SW 30th Street will be closed in both directions between SW Washington Way and SW Campus Way from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, May 31 for pothole repairs. The east-west intersection at SW Jefferson Way will remain open during this closure. Sidewalks will remain open.
Campus Way: As part of the Kelley District Utility Plant project, SW Campus Way between SW 26th Street and SW Memorial Place will be closed May 29-June 10. The closure is necessary to allow for crane activity related to the project. Unlike recent, intermittent closures related to the project, this will be a continuous closure of Campus Way. The Kelley Engineering Center south entrance will also be closed. The north sidewalk and both bicycle lanes in this section of Campus Way will be closed during this time period.
