CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University will celebrate Earth Week starting with a community fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday (April 18) in the campus Memorial Union Quad.

A half-dozen events, all free and open to the public, are planned throughout the week, ranging from an environmental film festival to an outdoor barbecue and concert. For a complete calendar of events, visit www.recycle.oregonstate.edu.

Tuesday's fair offers a variety of facts on recycling, sustainability and conservation awareness from diverse groups including Engineers Without Borders, Allied Waste of Corvallis and the Ecotrust/Salmon Nation.

At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Luke Tonachel, policy analyst for the Natural Resources Defense Council, will talk on "Our Oil Dependences" in OSU's Memorial Union Room 206.

Wednesday's events begin at 11 a.m. with alternative transportation demonstrations in the MU Quad. The four-hour presentation offers information on biodiesel, public transit, bicycling, hiking and other transport issues. An eight-hour environmental film festival starts at noon on Wednesday in the Memorial Union Lounge.

On Thursday, a two-hour recycled fashion show opens at noon on the Quad, followed at 6 p.m. by the Associated Students of OSU Rock Your World concert. The five-hour concert in the Quad will feature Aleson Tap, Polyester Morning and My Life in Black and White.

Two films on salvage logging will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Memorial Union Journey Room. The films "Fire Scars: A Biscuit Fire Documentary" and "Rethinking the Forests" will run through 9:30 p.m.

The celebration ends on Earth Day, April 22 with OSU's fourth-annual Hoo Haa at the university's organic farm. Featuring music, dance, food and planting, the celebration begins at 3 p.m. and wraps up at midnight. Pets should be left at home.
