CORVALLIS - A veterinarian who has built the largest private veterinary practice in the world, a researcher in animal nutrition, and president and CEO of the nation's largest Chinese foodservice provider will return to Oregon State University for Homecoming Weekend to be honored as Alumni Fellows.

The Alumni Fellows program, designed and sponsored by OSU's Alumni Association, brings back to campus prominent alumni who share their experiences with the university's students, staff, faculty and the public.

This year's fellows include: Scott Campbell, chairman and CEO of Banfield Pet Hospital; James Oldfield, a world authority on the use of selenium as a trace mineral supplement for domestic animals to ensure life and economic production; and Peggy Tsiang Cherng, president and CEO of Panda Management Company, Inc.

A free public reception will be held for the fellows on Friday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the CH2M HILL Alumni Center. They will also be introduced prior to the OSU Homecoming football game against Washington State.

Campbell received a bachelor's degree in animal science in 1980 and a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine in 1985, both at Oregon State University. He has built Banfield Pet Hospital into the largest private veterinary practice in the world, providing quality medical services to more than a million pets annually. Campbell has introduced new concepts into the practice of veterinary medicine including wellness plans, paperless records and quality assurance.

Campbell is active in the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon and the American Quarter Horse Association. He has also been awarded the Kentucky Colonel Award from the State of Kentucky in recognition of his contributions to veterinary medicine.

Oldfield, who received his doctoral degree in animal science from OSU in 1951, is a professor emeritus of animal nutrition in the Department of Animal Sciences at OSU and was the department head from 1967-87. He was also the director of the Nutrition Research Institute at OSU from 1986-90.

Oldfield is still active as a consultant for Selenium/Tellurium Development Association in Grimbergen, Belgium. He is also secretary for the Mink Farmers Research Foundation and has served on a variety of other animal science and nutrition boards since 1966.

Cherng earned her bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics from OSU in 1971. She later received her doctoral degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1975.

Through her leadership, Panda Management Company has gained a large share of the quick service market with its Panda Express concept. There are currently more than 320 Panda Express locations throughout 32 states and Japan, including a location in the Memorial Union on the OSU campus.

Cherng is active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Junior League of Pasadena, Child Abuse Prevention Council, Second Harvest, and Candle Lighters for Childhood Cancer.
