CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Jumpstart program - a popular, three-week workshop for talented pre-college artists - will bring a number of visiting artists to campus this summer who will make special presentations open to the public.

Every summer, Jumpstart draws some of the most talented young artists on the West Coast for the accelerated program, which offers painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, computer-aided design, print-making, sculpting and video.

The OSU program was created to fill a growing gap in high school arts instruction, caused by school districts' declining resources, said Jumpstart director John Maul.

Jumpstart will run from June 22 to July 9 this year, and feature a number of artists with varied backgrounds. Those making public presentations, most of which are free, include:

• June 22

  Anna Skibska. An artist who works with glass, Skibska and Marge Levy, director of the Pilchuck School of Glass in Seattle, will present an illustrated lecture about the school and show Skibska's unique glass creations. (6:30 to 8 p.m., Electrical and Computer Engineering Building Room 102)

   

• June 27

  Cheryl Hatch. A photographer and OSU graduate, Hatch has worked as an independent war correspondent and photojournalist. Her photographs from Liberia, Mozambique, the Gulf War and Somalia have been published in Time, U.S. News and World Report and other publications. Her presentation, "Follow Your Bliss: One Photographer's Journey," (6:30 to 8 p.m., Electrical and Computer Engineering Building Room 102)

   

• June 28

  Lucinda Parker. A painter whose works have been exhibited in solo shows throughout the West and in New York and Washington, D.C., the Portland artist is a professor at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. (6:30 to 8 p.m., Electrical and Computer Engineering Building Room 102)

   

• July 3

  Todd Korgan. A filmmaker who has produced both movies, "Have You Seen Patsy Wayne?" and "Johnny Bagpipes," and commercials for Seiko, Nike and Sprint, Korgan is the creative director of Generator Industries, which he co-founded in 1990. His offbeat, irreverent style reflects his reputation for creating fun, memorable visual moments. (6:30 to 8 p.m., Gilfillan Auditorium)

   

• July 7

  Keith Goodman and Dance Gatherer. A dance concert called "Blood Doctor and Some of his Relatives" will be performed by Goodman and Dance Gatherer. Goodman also will perform two commissioned works from internationally known choreographers. Tickets, priced at $4, $6 and $8, can be purchased at the door or in advance at the OSU Art Department (Fairbanks Hall Room 106), Gracewinds Music, Rice's Pharmacy, The Emporium, Sid Stevens Jewelers in Albany, or Balladeer Music in Eugene.
