CORVALLIS - Sir David Cox, one of the world's most noted statisticians, will present the 21st annual Milne Lecture on Tuesday, May 4, at Oregon State University.
Titled "Complex Dependencies: The Role of Graphical Models," the lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center. Sponsored by the OSU departments of statistics, computer science and mathematics, it is free and open to the public.
Cox, now a faculty member at the University of Oxford, has been awarded the Kettering Prize and Gold Medal for Cancer Research, along with 13 honorary doctorates and numerous other honors. In his long career he has developed many interesting problems in statistical applications, and his OSU lecture will include applications of his topic to the social and biomedical sciences.
A reception at the CH2M-HILL Alumni Center will follow the lecture.
