CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Department of Music has released a CD featuring music by the Arrieu Wind Quintet, its 1998-1999 chamber group in residence.
Titled "World Tour," the disk contains compositions based on diverse ethnic traditions, and includes the Russian folk tale "Peter and the Wolf." The members of the quintet are Jill Pauls, flute; Annalisa Morton, oboe; Carol Robe, clarinet; Andreas Lang, horn; and Mike Curtis, bassoon. Guest drummer and narrator is Dave Storrs.
Much of the music for this recording is derived from a trio of performances presented in the fall, jointly sponsored by Opera Theater Corvallis and the OSU music department. In LaSells Stewart Center before 1,000 third-graders, and in public performances at the Majestic Theatre, the quintet and Willamette Apprentice Ballet performed "Peter and the Wolf," jazz and klezmer numbers.
These selections are included on the CD along with a tango and Mexican music. Recording was done locally at Dave Storrs' Califas Studio, with editing by Dave Trenkel. OSU art professor Andrea Marks designed the CD cover layout. The CD is available locally at Grass Roots Bookstore in Corvallis, and other music outlets.
