CORVALLIS - The Music a la Carte Concert Series at Oregon State University will feature the OSU Chamber Choir on Thursday, Nov. 14. The free public concert begins at noon in the OSU Memorial Union Lounge.
The OSU Chamber Choir is the premier choral ensemble at OSU and includes 38 highly select singers dedicated to the joy of singing. Choir director Steven M. Zielke is director of choral studies at OSU.
The choir will perform a diverse program of music, from the 17th century through contemporary works. Psalm 100, "Jauchzet dem Herren" by composer Heinrich Schutz, is a 17th-century two-choir motet.
An 18th-century work on the program is the first movement of G.F. Handel's "Dixit Dominus," which is written in the operatic style and requires virtuoso singing by the choir. "Dixit Dominus" will be performed in its entirety by the OSU combined choirs and Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra in the Holiday Concert on Dec. 6 at the LaSells Stewart Center.
Three traditional spirituals on the program are "Elijah Rock" arranged by popular contemporary arranger Moses Hogan; "Deep River" arranged by Renee Clausen, the conductor of the Concordia Choir in Minnesota; and "I Wanna Be Ready," featuring soloist Camelia Nine, a senior vocal performance student at OSU.
Two contemporary works are "Lux Arumque" by Eric Whitacre, and "David's Lamentation," by Joshua Shank, a young composer and recent graduate of St. Olaf College. For more information, call 541-737-4061.
