CORVALLIS - Riders from throughout the Pacific Northwest will be at Oregon State University on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9-10, to compete in an intercollegiate equestrian team match.

Competition starts at 9 a.m. each day at the OSU Horse Center, 5501 N.W. Walnut Blvd., north of Harrison Boulevard. Admission is free and each day's events will finish about 5 p.m., said Megan LaFollett, of OSU's Intercollegiate Equestrian Team, which is hosting the event. There will also be an opportunity to participate in a silent auction throughout the weekend, featuring items donated by regional businesses.

Horse events will feature student athletes from OSU, University of Washington, Washington State University, Seattle University, University of Oregon and Linn-Benton Community College, taking horses through tasks such as jumping, reigning and rail-work, LaFollett said.

The competition is based on Intercollegiate Horse Show Association rules, and in IHSA shows, the host college provides the horses for all riders. Riders draw horses at random and are allowed no schooling or warm-up before they enter the competition ring.

"This leads to a true test of horsemanship skills, as well as a lot of excitement," LaFollett said.
