CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host a Congressional field hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 15, on engineering and engineering education. Fifth District U.S. Congresswoman Darlene Hooley scheduled the hearing to gather information from educators and industry representatives.

Others joining her panel will be State Sen. Cliff Trow; State Representative Barbara Ross; Carla Nuxoll, Oregon Department of Education; and Danny Santos from Gov. John Kitzhaber's office.

Scheduled to offer testimony are OSU President Paul G. Risser; Jerry Fisher, Hewlett-Packard Co.; Eileen Berger, Mentor Graphics; Jim Craven, American Electronics Association; Bruce Schafer, Chancellor's Higher Education Industry Council; Dan Whitaker, Hot Data, Inc.; and Trevor Smith, Portland State University.

Wednesday's hearing will begin at 11 a.m. in the Multimedia Room of OSU's CH2M-Hill Alumni Center. The hearing is open to the public.

Live telecast coverage of the proceedings will be broadcast into the Portland metropolitan area on two special channels. The broadcast will be carried on OSU Channel 11 on the MBONE high-tech network and on ITFS channel A-1, an MPEG video system which links the university with high technology industry in the Portland area.

The telecast is the first Congressional hearing ever originated in Oregon on these kinds of special networks.
