CORVALLIS - John Peterson Myers, who for 12 years directed a foundation to protect the global environment and prevent nuclear war, will give the next lecture in an Oregon State University series honoring the legacy of Rachel Carson.
His lecture, "Silent Spring to Scientific Revolution," will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, in OSU's Milam Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
From 1990 to 2002, Myers directed the W. Alton Jones Foundation. He is now senior adviser to the United Nations Foundation and a senior fellow at Commonweal.
Myers is co-author of the book, "Our Stolen Future: Are We Threatening Our Fertility, Intelligence and Survival?" A resident of Charlottesville, Va., he has a doctorate in zoology form the University of California at Berkeley.
The Ideas Matter lecture series, sponsored by the OSU Department of Philosophy, is honoring Carson, the late author of the landmark book, "Silent Spring," which warned about the long-term health and environmental effects of misusing pesticides.
