CORVALLIS - Turkish music and poetry will be featured at a special event at Oregon State University's LaSells Stewart Center on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Evening festivities, sponsored by the OSU Turkish Student Association, begin at 8 p.m.

LaSells Stewart Center is located at 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis.

A pre-concert talk on the genre is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $10 general admission and $8 students. For more information, contact the OSU Turkish Student Association at 541-737-4861 or 541-758-1559.

Featured performer is the Latif Bolat Ensemble, which will explore Turkish Sufi and folk music. Sufism is described as an enlightened tradition of mysticism and a religion of the heart in which the primary focus is to seek God in the heart of mankind.

Latif Bolat is a Turkish musician who has lived and performed in the United States for nearly 15 years. The ensemble's performance includes flute and violin and is characterized by it's trance-like rhythm and devotional lyrics.

There will also be a slide presentation featuring scenes of Turkey.
