CORVALLIS - Three students at Oregon State University have received scholarships to study abroad as part of their work in the university's international degree program.

The international degree gives students the opportunity to explore the international dimensions of their major, and students pursuing it will actually earn two degrees - a bachelor in both their chosen field and international studies. Students earn 32 international course credits beyond the requirements for their primary degree, show proficiency in a second language, spend a minimum of 10 weeks abroad, and complete a senior project that demonstrates their international expertise.

Students who received scholarships include:

OREGON

AURORA: Jennifer Engels, a junior in geosciences, received $3,659 to study in Vietnam, where she will collect information for a senior thesis titled "Large Dams: Conflicts in Water Use in Vietnam and the United States."

CORVALLIS: Victoria Sanguino, a senior in liberal arts, received $800 to work in southern Mexico on educational strategies used by rural elementary schools.

NEVADA

LAS VEGAS: Toni Pusateri, a junior in nutrition and food management, received $2,300 to work in Ecuador, where she will study at the University de San Francisco in Quito and collect information for her senior project on health care services in that nation.
