CORVALLIS - Jeffrey A. McCubbin, who has developed Oregon State University's program for Movement Studies in Disability into a nationally recognized initiative, has been accepted for induction into the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

The academy was established to encourage and promote the study and educational applications of human movement and physical activity.

A professor of exercise and sport science at OSU, McCubbin also serves as associate dean of the College of Health and Human Performance.

He was cited for his leadership in the assessment and improvement of health-related physical fitness for persons with disability, including mental retardation. The Movement Studies in Disability program at OSU is one of the top such programs in the nation, and McCubbin has been a mentor for dozens of graduates who have gone on to work in this growing field.

McCubbin also directs the Special Physical and Motor Fitness Clinic at OSU at which graduate and undergraduate students work with dozens of disabled children on fitness to help improve their lives.

He is co-author of a textbook called "Games, Sports and Exercises for the Physically Disabled" which is used in numerous graduate programs in the U.S., and has been translated into three languages.

McCubbin has been on the OSU faculty since 1988.
