CORVALLIS - The American Meteorological Society has given a special award to Christopher Daly, who founded and directs the Spatial Climate Analysis Service at Oregon State University.

Daly was cited by the society for his contributions to the advancement of applied meteorology.

A researcher at OSU since 1990, Daly is a research professor in the Department of Geosciences, and an adjunct professor in OSU's College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences. The Spatial Climate Analysis Service that he directs produces detailed spatial climate data sets for states, countries and regions that are used in meteorological applications around the world.

He is a member of several international climate working groups and chairs numerous activities for the American Meteorological Society.

A graduate of the University of California at Davis, Daly has a master's degree from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. from OSU.

Daly received his award from the American Meteorological Society, which lauded him for his "meticulous efforts in developing innovative techniques to map climate data in formats that facilitate their application by users around the world."

The society is the nation's largest professional organization for scientists in atmospheric and related sciences, with membership of more than 11,000 professionals, faculty, students and weather enthusiasts. It was founded in 1919.
