CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences is sponsoring the 21st annual Art About Agriculture regional art competition and the entry deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Entries must be postmarked by Dec. 3, or hand-delivered by 4 p.m on that day, according to Shelly Curtis, the program's coordinator. Media are limited to drawing, photography, prints and video. Student artwork is not eligible, Curtis said.

"This year we are seeking submission of artworks with an agricultural and/or natural resources theme created by artists living in Alaska, British Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington," said Curtis. "Agriculture, our source of food and fiber, and natural resources may be defined specifically or broadly as the culture, economy, practice and science of food systems from seed to civilization. This includes natural resources from land and sea, and living in harmony with the environment."

More than $4,000 will be given to artists to purchase their work and as honorarium awards, Curtis said. The OSU college gives the awards in partnership with the OSU Foundation and the E.R. Jackman Board of Directors.

Some hosts and dates for the tour of 2003 Art About Agriculture winners:

• Corvallis - The Giustina Art Gallery, Oregon State University, March-April.
• Silverton - The Oregon Garden, May.
• Madras - The Art Adventure Gallery, July.
• Grants Pass - The Grants Pass Museum of Art, August.

A more detailed touring schedule will be available March 11, 2003.

Jurors for the competition will be Harrison Branch, professor of art, OSU; Tallmadge Doyle, professor of art, University of Oregon; and John Olbrantz, the Maribeth Collins Director of the Hallie Ford Museum of Art and professor of art history, Willamette University.
