CORVALLIS - A computer engineer at Oregon State University has left for Beijing, China, as part of a United Nations initiative to assist China with technological development.

Shih-lien Lu, an expert in computer design and architecture and OSU associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, will work in China until mid-September, hosted by the China International Center of Economics and Technology Exchange.

Lu will focus on improving China's ability to use high performance computers in modeling both short and long-term weather and climate patterns.

Lu has been on the OSU faculty since 1991.
