CORVALLIS - A professor from the University of Redlands who specializes in the study of Margaret Fuller will give a free public lecture at Oregon State University on Thursday, April 8, that looks at the politics of the early American feminist.

The lecture by Robert N. Hudspeth, "At Home Abroad: Margaret Fuller's Politics," begins at 4 p.m. in Memorial Union Room 206. It is free and open to the public.

The lecture is part of the university's American Culture and Politics series, sponsored by the Thomas Hart and Mary Jones Horning Endowment in the Humanities at OSU, and supported by the history department.

Fuller was an early advocate of American feminism and editor of "Dial," one of America's most important early journals of literature, philosophy and politics. In his lecture, Hudspeth will discuss the context of Fuller's dispatches from Rome to the New York Tribune from 1848-50, especially as they related to the Italian revolution and the 1848 U.S. presidential election.

Hudspeth is a research professor of English at Redlands and the author or editor of two books on the letters of Margaret Fuller, published by the Cornell University Press. He is also working on three volumes of the correspondence of Henry David Thoreau for the Princeton University Press.
