CORVALLIS - Six educators in Oregon State University's College of Business have earned recognition from the college's Business Advisory Council for exemplary work during the academic year.

The council's Byron L. Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching was awarded to John "Jack" Drexler, associate professor of management. Drexler is co-hosting a special OSU course, "The Enron Implosion," focusing on the collapse last year of the Enron Corp. The award recognizes superior classroom performance and effectiveness.

Roger Graham, an associate professor of accounting, received the Excellence in Scholarship Award. He was cited for an impressive research portfolio with his publications consistently appearing in top academic journals.

The council's Outstanding Professional Faculty and Staff Award went to Brenda Baxter, Student Services adviser and coordinator for the Business Alumni Network for young College of Business alumni and coordinator of the annual Winter Career Symposium for students.

Ray Brooks, associate professor of finance, earned the Outstanding Faculty Service Award for contributions to the college's Scholarship Committee and Executive Committee.

Earning the Gazette-Times Leadership Award for their work as co-chairmen of the college's Sustainability Program as well as creation of relationships across campus and with the Oregon business community were Steve Lawton, associate professor of international business, and Tom Dowling, management instructor.

The college's Business Advisory Council works to provide guidance to focus teaching and scholarship and keep curriculum in tune with business and industry.
