CORVALLIS - The first in a series of readings celebrating Oregon State University's new master of fine arts degree in creative writing will feature presentations from an OSU instructor and a visiting writer-in-residence.

David Biespiel, who teaches poetry writing at OSU, and visiting writer Kate Bernheimer, will read from their works on Monday, May 20, in the Learning Lounge of OSU's Memorial Union. The readings will begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

Biespiel has written a collection of poetry, "Shattering Air," published in 1996 by BOA Editions. The Texas-raised poet was educated at Boston University and the University of Maryland. His works have been published in the New York Times Book Review, American Poetry Review, and Poetry Northwest.

Bernheimer is the author of a novel, "The Complete Tales of Ketzia Gold," from Black Ice Books (2002), and the editor of a 1998 anthology published by Anchor called "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Women Writers Explore Their Favorite Fairy Tales." She is a visiting writer-in-residence at OSU this term, teaching graduate fiction writing.
