CORVALLIS - Several faculty members and students from the Oregon State University Department of Rangeland Resources were honored with awards at the recent annual meeting of the Society for Range Management in Kansas City, Mo.
Three faculty members received the society's honor awards, given to recognize outstanding contributions to the science and art of range management. John Buckhouse won the Frederic G. Renner Award for career contributions to range management as a range scientist and educator. Mike Borman and Richard Miller won Outstanding Achievement Awards for the excellence of their research programs in range management.
In addition, several students won recognition in various contests held in conjunction with the annual meeting. Ted McArthur, master's student in rangeland resources, won first place in the Graduate Student Paper Contest. Entrants were judged on the quality of papers about their graduate research projects A team of OSU rangeland resources students won third place in the Undergraduate Range Management Examination in which teams from several universities were tested on their knowledge of range management science.
The OSU Range and Natural Resources Club won first place in University Student Chapter Display Contest where tabletop displays illustrating range management concepts were rated for originality, composition and effective communication.
The Society for Range Management is an international organization composed of range management science educators and professionals. The society promotes the stewardship of rangeland ecosystems and the professional development of its members.
