CORVALLIS - Paul Farber, a distinguished professor of history at Oregon State University, has received the Joseph H. Hazen Education Prize from the History of Science Society.

Farber, who chairs the Department of History at OSU, was cited for his career contributions to the field. The award was presented at a recent annual meeting of the History of Science Society in Cambridge, Mass.

"Throughout his academic career, Paul has been an intellectual force, a devoted mentor, and a bridge between the sciences and the humanities," said Larry Principe, a professor at Johns Hopkins who presented the award to Farber.

The History of Science Society is the world's largest organization dedicated to understanding science, technology, medicine and their interactions with society in historical context. The Joseph H. Hazen Award is given annually to recognize excellence in teaching the history of science. It honors Joseph Hazen, a long-time supporter of the society, who had a long career as a lawyer, film producer, art collector and philanthropist.
