CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert of big band jazz on Thursday, Nov. 13, at noon in the Memorial Union Lounge. The concert, which is free and open to the public, is part of the Music à la Carte brown bag concert series.
The concert will feature a variety of jazz styles. Selections include "A Foggy Day" and "Willow Weep for Me," as recorded by Stan Kenton Orchestra, and "Four-Five-Six" composed by Frank Foster.
The performance will feature many soloists. David Stanley will be featured on the alto sax in "Harlem Nocturne," composed by Earle Hagen. There will also be several improvised solos by Erik Nelson on trumpet, Will Stott on tenor saxophone, Evan Churchill on trumpet, and Grant Thomas on trombone.
Ben Lawson, a graduate student in music education, has directed the ensemble for two years. Last year Lawson was the band and choir director at Inavale Elementary and Zion Lutheran schools in Corvallis.
