CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences will launch its 20th statewide Art About Agriculture touring exhibition Tuesday, March 12, with an artists' reception and awards presentation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in OSU's Memorial Union lounge. The public is invited.

The 2002 exhibit will be on display at OSU from March 12 until April 26 in the Memorial Union's Concourse Gallery. Other exhibit sites include the High Desert Museum in Bend, May 11 to Sept. 2; and the Klamath County Government Center in Klamath Falls, Sept. 9 to Oct. 8.

According to Shelley Curtis, Art About Agriculture coordinator, 168 artists from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Hawaii, Montana, Oregon and Washington entered the 2002 competition. Jurors selected 46 works by 39 artists for the tour and awarded cash prizes totaling $6,000.

Volunteer jurors for the 2002 exhibit were Humberto Gonzalez, painter, Lebanon; Ronna Neuenschwander, sculptor, Portland, and Martha Wehrle, sculptor and assistant professor, OSU Department of Art.

The E.R. Jackman Board of Directors, part of the OSU Foundation, sponsors the awards. Artworks purchased from the competition, including five this year, will become part of OSU's Art About Agriculture Permanent Collection of contemporary fine art.
