CORVALLIS - Anyone who missed ringing in the New Year on Jan. 1 will have a second chance as Oregon State University's Vietnamese Students Association celebrates the lunar New Year on Feb. 16.

Admission to the three-hour cultural festival is free and open to the public. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. in OSU's LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis.

The cultural exhibition will feature Southeast Asian clothing, dance, music and explorations of the significance of the celebration, students said. The exhibition will be followed by a dance from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at OSU's Arnold Dining Center. Dance tickets are $3 if purchased during the cultural show and $5 at the door.

Tet Nguyen Dan is the lunar New Year Festival in Vietnam and it is the most important Vietnamese holiday. Tet is the celebration of the beginning of spring as well as a new year. It is the time for reunions, gifts and best wishes.

Literally, Tet Nguyen Dan means the first morning of the first day of the year.
