PORTLAND - Family businesses leaders can learn about a new tool - the Family Business Scorecard - at a May 29 workshop sponsored by Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program.
The four-hour workshop starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Governor Hotel. Cost for the workshop is $150 per person and includes breakfast. For more information and to register call the Austin Family Business Program at 800-859-7609 or visit the website at www.familybusinessonline.org.
The Family Business Scorecard works for business owners in measuring and achieving maximum potential in development, management, and succession planning. The scorecard examines items such as personal goals, company values, community and industry involvement, professional training and advancement, and income and expense.
"This is a valuable tool that will help family businesses assess and manage the linkages that will contribute to big-picture success for both the family and the business," said Mark Green, director of OSU's Austin Family Business Program. "Both financial and non-financial indicators can determine where improvements can be made within the professional management system."
Business organizations are increasingly using measurement systems such as a business scorecard to examine whether personal, professional and operational goals are being met.
Since 1985, the Austin Family Business Program has helped Oregon's family-owned businesses not only survive, but thrive, Green said. The program offers academic courses, workshops and seminars, and other tools to aid families and service providers in their business operations and planning.
