CORVALLIS - Students from Ione and Corvallis have been appointed new executives for The Daily Barometer, Oregon State University's award-winning, student-run newspaper.
Niki Sullivan, a senior from Ione studying communications, has been named editor-in-chief of the newspaper. She has worked at the newspaper for the past two years, starting as a writer for the entertainment section before moving to the student government beat. Last fall, Sullivan was named higher education editor before being promoted to managing editor of the newspaper this spring.
Trevor Elliott, a senior from Corvallis studying business, is the new business manager for The Daily Barometer after serving the past year as the business manager for the Beaver Yearbook. Elliott said he looks forward to increasing national ad sales for the newspaper.
"There was a strong pool of candidates for both jobs," said Frank Ragulsky, OSU's student media adviser. "They'll continue to move the newspaper forward."
Last year, the Society of Professional Journalists named The Daily Barometer the best all-around daily student newspaper in the country. The competition drew more than 2,700 entries in 45 categories for print, radio, television, and online collegiate journalism.
Earlier this month, SPJ awarded The Daily Barometer the best all-around daily student newspaper in the region including papers in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Oregon. The paper will compete nationally for the best all-around daily newspaper for the second year.
