CORVALLIS - Oregon State University students are bringing a taste of the islands to the Willamette Valley this spring as the campus' Hui O Hawaii Club holds its 48th annual Luau on Saturday, April 19. The event features dinner, hula performances and more than two hours of music.
The luau will be held at OSU's Gill Coliseum on 26th Street, north of Western Boulevard. The event is open to everyone with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and with dinner starting about 5:15 p.m. Tickets are limited and will be sold daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the OSU Memorial Union Quad or inside the Memorial Union, said Jenna Shiraishi, the Hui O Hawaii Club historian.
"The dinner tickets usually sell out," she said.
Presale tickets that include admission to the dinner, concert and show are $20. Combination show and concert tickets are $10. Remaining tickets will be available at the door with an additional $5 fee, Shiraishi said. For information, contact Sean Holokai at 541-754-7638 or at seanholokai@yahoo.com.
Dinner includes a variety of island foods, including Kahlua cake and poi, Shiraishi said.
The musical portion of the evening features the local musical group Solidity, as well as the island groups Kohomua and Pilani Arias, Shiraishi said.
Kohomua (First Choice) began in 1995 under the direct tutelage of Kevin Brown who was formerly of the Hawaiian group "Waiehu Sons" and the Hoku Award-winning "Brown Ohana" of Maui.
