CORVALLIS - Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus of geology at Oregon State University, will present "The Mount St. Helens Eruption of 1980-81" in a lecture on Monday, Oct. 11.

The presentation will be in the CH2M Hill Alumni Center, Willamette Room A/B, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

Yeats, an expert on the geology of earthquakes, was chair of the OSU Department of Geosciences in 1980 when the catastrophic eruption of Mount St. Helens occurred. His presentation will begin with pre-eruption views of the volcano; the ash eruptions of March and April, 1980, that were somewhat similar to those that have occurred recently; the buildup of the bulge in the volcano; and the primary eruption itself.

Other illustrations will cover the aftermath of the eruption, the growth of the lava dome, field work inside the crater in 1981, and some of the regeneration of life around the volcano.
