CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Meistersingers and Bella Voce choirs will perform Thursday, Feb. 27, in OSU's Memorial Union Lounge as part of the Music a la Carte concert series. The free public concert begins at noon. Audience members are welcome to bring a sack lunch.
Bella Voce, directed by Tina Bull, will perform the folk song, "My Heart's in the Highlands," composed by Donna Gartman Schultz to the text of the Scottish poet Robert Burns. The choir will also sing "Ride on King Jesus," a spiritual arranged by famed American conductor and composer Moses Hogan. Two additional selections of interest are "Working for the Dawn of Peace" and "Jabbywocky," both which were composed and published by Ron Jeffers, former director of choirs at OSU.
Steven Zielke will direct the OSU Meistersingers in "For the Fallen," a dramatic composition dedicated to those who have given their life in service to the country. They will also perform "Go Down Moses" and "The Animals a Comin'" - both of which are arrangements of traditional spirituals. Continuing a tradition, the men's choir will provide its rendition of OSU school songs, including the fight song.
The choirs will combine to perform "The Heavens are Telling," a chorus from Haydn's "The Creation." The concert will close with the singing of the OSU Alma Mater by choirs and audience.
Bella Voce and the OSU Meistersingers were founded in the fall of 1999, and since that time have grown into large and accomplished choirs. Both ensembles are committed to providing high quality music experiences to all OSU students from throughout the academic disciplines.
